Rio Lagartos Adventures is my family business and we are located in the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve in Rio Lagartos, Yucatan.(This is where I grew up)The Bio reserve is one of the best Tarpon Fishing areas in the world and it is in our back yard. Here in the Ria Lagartos Bio Reserve I have been guiding fishermen and birders for more than 25 years,
Together with my son Diego jr. ,daughter Andrea and excellent guide Carlos we concentrate on giving small groups of fishermen great fishing. My wife Matilda takes care of the great food part in our Ria Maya Restaurante.
RIA MAYA LODGE AND RESTAURANT
We have 4 rooms and a 3 bedroom apartment as a choice for fishing groups. Ria Maya Restaurant is full service restaurant serving breakfast lunch and dinner with beer wine and liquors
In addition to Tarpon, we have a wide variety of species to pursue in Rio Lagartos using the full range of light tackle. The Gulf of Mexico waters along our coast are very productive.
If you are the adventurous type we can take you to the most isolated and we believe the best bone fishing in Mexico.(beach camping-no lodges)

For the past 6 years we have followed all of the catch and release rules for large Tarpon. The photos of Giant Tarpon out of the water are from earlier

Baby Tarpon are abundant here all year long
Baby Tarpon are abundant here all year long. We fish them in the protected water of the estuary. Spin casting for these powerful acrobatic fish is also great sport. We can always show you the fish and put you on top of them. We can’ t always make
them bite.! This is also an excellent place to learn the art of salt water flats fly fishing. As guides ,it’s part of our job to teach. We have many experienced fresh water fly fishermen that come to learn .
The tarpon above was landed after a three hour fight that started about a mile from the beach. It was the first tarpon for Johan ,a seasoned fly fisherman from Holland. We worked the 65 kilo giant to the beach to land it for photos without injuring the fish. It was revived and released.
Now we follow the rules for catch and release that does not allow Tarpon greater than 40lbs to be removed from the water,
